Activating Respondus
- Go to the Quizzes tool.
- Select the LockDown Browser tab at the top of the screen.
- If this is your first time using LockDown Browser (LDB) you will see in the bottom right corner of the screen you will see the Continue to LockDown Browser button (Note: this can take a while for this to load)
- Your quizzes will be listed here and you will need to select the Setting from the pulldown menu to the left of your quiz name.
- Choose to Require Respondus LockDown for this exam.
- Within the settings, you will need to choose the following: set a password and any advanced settings.

Advanced Settings
There are additional options available.
- Require LockDown Browser to view feedback and results.
- Lock students into the browser until the exam is complete.
- Allow access to specific external web domains.
- You grant access to an allowed site by including a link to the first page your students should visit within the quiz. You can include the link within any question in the quiz. When the link is selected, the site will be loaded in a new tab in the browser. Once the site is loaded by the student, it will remain available until the student closes the tab. If you wish your students to have access to a site for the entire quiz duration, add the link in the first question.
- When adding access to an entire site, be sure to specify that the links "open in a new window or tab" and not in the same window.
- Be sure to enter only the domain part of the URL. For example, use "www.winona.edu", not "https://www.winona.edu."
Respondus Monitor
Respondus Monitor is a function of the Respondus Lockdown Browser that allows faculty to monitor student exams at a distance using a built-in laptop camera or connected webcam. The system can be configured to have students capture a photo image of yourself, take a picture of their ID, show a video of their testing environment, and validate their image as they take the exam. Respondus Monitor flags suspicious behavior and uses advanced data analysis to determine which exam sessions require the greatest level of attention by instructors.
Note: Respondus strongly encourages a practice exam the day before you do your actual exam. Also, please encourage students to download the newest version of LDB in your directions and correspondence as this is where we typically see problems. Most students don't realize how often this browser is updated to assure the highest security measures are in place.
If you are using Monitor, select Require Respondus Monitor for this exam from the Lockdown menu.

Viewing Student Videos
To view webcam recordings instructors can access these by following the directions below.
