Activating Your LinkedIn Learning Account
Before you can start using LinkedIn Learning, you will need to activate your Winona State University account. This involves signing in to the LinkedIn Learning website using your StarID credentials, deciding whether to connect your LinkedIn Learning account with your LinkedIn account, and selecting several topics of interest. Your account will remain active as long as you are a Winona State University student or employee.
Step 1. Sign in
- Use your favorite web browser to go to the LinkedIn Learning homepage.
- Select the Sign In button at the top right corner of the page.
- Sign in using your organization email, this will be your Winona State email address, not your StarID (e.g., doug.johnson@go.winona.edu or djohnson14@winona.edu) and select Continue.

- Select Sign in with Single Sign-On.
- Enter the version of your username with your StarID (e.g., jd8762vd@minnstate.edu).
Step 2. Linking your LinkedIn Account to LinkedIn Learning
You will be asked whether you want to connect your personal LinkedIn account, if you have one, to your WSU LinkedIn Learning account. ou do not need a personal LinkedIn account to use LinkedIn Learning and you do not need to connect the two. LinkedIn is a popular online resume and professional networking service and connecting the two services has some advantages. You can always decide to do it later and the two can be disconnected later.
Step 3: Select Topics that Interest You
You will be asked to select topics/skills of Interest to you. We recommend selecting at least 3 to start with and you can always select more or remove areas of interest. Your choices will help LinkedIn Learning populate your homepage with recommended courses. After selecting some topics, you will continue to your LinkedIn Learning homepage.
Integrating LinkedIn Learning into Your Course Content
- Within your D2L Brightspace course, navigate to Content. Go to the module into which the document is to be added.
- Within that module, click Existing Activities.
- Click LinkedIn Learning option from this list.
- A search box will appear and you can search (or choose History) for any video, course, or learning path you wish your students to view. To the right of the content, you would like your students to see will be an Add button and once you click on this resource will pull the title and any description they provide about the course over to Brightspace.
- Select the Confirm once you have added your content (Note: this might be at the bottom of your screen so make sure to scroll down).
- This will take you back to the Content module you were in and the new content will appear at the bottom and any changes to the description or title can be made at this time.
