Company Portal Graduate HP Reset Instructions

Important: This reset process is only available for HP EliteBook laptops that were purchased by graduates through the Winona State University eWarrior Program.

It cannot be used on university owned or current student devices. Resetting the laptop will erase all files and return it to factory settings.

Be sure to carefully review all steps before beginning.

Before You Start

  • Back up all personal files. This process permanently deletes all data.
  • Plug the laptop into a power source.
  • You must be able to launch Company Portal to complete this reset.

Reset Your HP EliteBook Using Company Portal

Step 1: Launch Company Portal

Open the Company Portal app by searching for it in your windows menu / the search bar at the bottom of your screen. If prompted, sign in in with your student account. You may briefly see a loading screen.

If given see an option to choose the best category for your device, choose WSU and then click DONE at the bottom (you may have to sign in again).

Click on Settings in the bottom left corner.

Click Sync and wait for it to confirm that it was successful.

Step 2: Confirm Your Device

Click the Home button on the left navigation menu.

Verify that the serial number shown in Company Portal matches the serial number on the bottom of your laptop. If multiple devices appear, select the correct one.

Select your laptop from the device list.

Step 3: Choose Reset

Click Actions, then select Reset.

Use the Actions menu to begin the reset.

Step 4: Confirm the Reset

Click Reset to confirm that you want to reset the PC. This cannot be undone.

Confirm the reset to erase all data.

Step 5: Reset in Progress

The reset may take some time to start. If it has not started within one hour, restart the computer.

The system will display a progress screen while resetting.

Step 6: Complete Windows Setup

Once the reset is complete you will see the language screen below. Follow the on‑screen Windows setup instructions.

Important: Do not use your StarID / WSU email during setup. If you do not follow these instructions, you may need to visit WSU Technical Support, mail in your laptop, or request a USB key for reset.

Instructions assume:

Step 1: Select Language, Region, and Keyboard

Select your language, then select your country or region and click Yes. Choose your keyboard layout and click Yes. Add a second keyboard layout if desired, otherwise click Skip.

Step 2: Connect to a Network

Connect to Wi‑Fi or plug in an Ethernet adapter, then click Next.

Step 3: Check for Updates and Name Your Computer

Your system may check for updates — please be patient. Review and accept the license agreement if prompted. When asked to name your computer, click Skip for Now.

Step 4: Choose Device Setup Type

When asked how you want to set up the device, select Set up for work or school, then click Next. Do not select Set up for personal use.

Select Set up for work or school to continue.

Step 5: Bypass Work or School Sign‑In

On the sign‑in screen, click Sign‑in Options.

Click Sign‑in Options to bypass the work or school sign‑in.

Then click Domain join instead. You will not actually join a domain — this bypasses the Microsoft sign‑in requirement.

Select Domain join instead to continue with a local account.

Step 6: Create Your Local Account

Enter your name and click Next.

Create a password, confirm it, then click Next.

Answer your security questions, clicking Next after each one.

Complete all three security questions.

Step 7: Biometric Sign‑In (Optional)

Choose whether to set up face or fingerprint sign‑in, or click Skip for Now. We recommend skipping — you can set this up later.

Step 8: Privacy Settings

Review the privacy settings by toggling each option on or off. By default, all options are turned on. Click Next through each screen, then click Accept.

Step 9: Final Updates and Restart

Your system may begin installing updates. You can wait for them to finish or choose Update Later. You may see a message that updates could not be completed and will install later.

Updates may install automatically or can be deferred.

Your system will reboot and setup is complete.

Troubleshooting

  • If Company Portal will not launch, the reset cannot be completed remotely.
  • If the reset does not begin after one hour, restart the computer.
  • If issues continue, Tech Support can:
    • Help you complete these instructions
    • Reset the device in person, or
    • Provide a USB reset drive with instructions
