New User Registration on IRBNet

Question

  • How do I complete a new user registration on IRBNet?

Answer

All researchers of projects being submitted to the WSU IRB/IACUC, any faculty sponsor reviewing and signing student packages, and all WSU IRB/IACUC members are required to register.

  1. Using a web browser, visit www.irbnet.org
  2. Select New User Registration in top right corner
  3. Enter “first name,” “last name,” “WSU email” twice, and “phone number”
  4. Select Winona State University, Winona, MN from drop-down menu
  5. Enter “StarID” for username and create a password
  6. Review terms and select Accept
  7. Use same device to visit email inbox and follow directions to activate account
  8. This will bring you back to “www.irbnet.org”
  9. Enter “StarID” for username and the password you created in top right corner
  10. Select Login in top right corner

Troubleshooting

  1. Use a Supported Browser
    IRBNet works best with updated versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. Avoid using Internet Explorer or mobile browsers.

  2. Check for Pop-Up Blockers
    Some registration steps may involve pop-ups. Disable pop-up blockers temporarily or allow IRBNet in your browser settings.

  3. Institution Selection
    Make sure to select the correct institution from the dropdown list.

  4. Email Address Format
    Use your institutional email (e.g., ending in  winona.edu or go.winona.edu).
    Double-check for typos—this is a common cause of failed registration or missing confirmation emails.

  5. Password Requirements
    Follow the password rules exactly (e.g., minimum length, special characters).
    Avoid using previously breached passwords.

  6. Confirmation Email Not Received?
    Check your spam/junk folder. If so, add irbnet.org to your safe sender list to prevent future junked mail.
    If still missing, try resending or contact IRBNet support at support@irbnet.org.

  7. Already Registered?
    If you get an error saying the email is already in use, you may already have an account. Try the “Forgot Password” option.

  8. JavaScript Must Be Enabled
    IRBNet requires JavaScript. Make sure it's enabled in your browser settings.
