CITI Program Training (Employees & Graduate Students)

Question

  • How do I complete the CITI Program training?

Answer

All employee and graduate student researchers of projects being submitted to the WSU IRB/IACUC and all WSU IRB/IACUC members are required to complete CITI Program Training.

  1. Using a web browser, visit about.citiprogram.org
  2. If you need to create an account:
    1. Select Register in the top right corner
    2. Select the Select Your Organization Affiliation button
    3. Use the text entry box to populate and select Winona State University
    4. Check the boxes to agree to the terms of service, privacy policy, and affiliation
    5. Select the Create a CITI Program account button
    6. Provide your personal information, using WSU email as the primary address
    7. Select the Continue to Step 3 button
    8. Enter “StarID” for username and create a password
    9. Select a Security Question and provide the appropriate Security Answer
    10. Select the Continue to Step 4 button
    11. Connect your ORCID iD if choose
    12. Use the text entry box to populate and select your Country of Residence
    13. Respond to the communications preference question
    14. Select the Continue Registration button
    15. Proceed to #4.
  3. If you already have an account:
    1. Log in
    2. Add affiliation to Winona State University
    3. Proceed to #4
  4. You may be directed to the Select Curriculum page, but if not select View Courses next to Winona State University under Institutional Courses. Then scroll to the bottom of your Winona State University courses page and select Add a Course.
    1. Select all that apply for Question 1
      1. Most investigators will select only Social and Behavioral Responsible Conduct of Research
      2. For studies involving biological specimens, disease treatment, clinical trials, etc. select Biomedical Responsible Conduct of Research
    2. Using the previous guidance, select the appropriate response for Question 2
    3. Skip Question 3 unless you are an IRB Chair
    4. Select the appropriate response for Question 4
    5. Select the appropriate response for Question 5 (COI not required)
    6. Select the appropriate response for Question 6 (IPS not required)
    7. Select the appropriate response for Question 7 (only if working with animals)
    8. Select the Submit button
  5. To select and complete a course…
    1. Find the appropriate course on the Winona State University courses page
    2. Select the Start Now button
    3. Complete all modules assigned to the course
  6. To add Completion Certificate to IRBNet
    1. When course is completed, find the appropriate course on the Winona State University courses page
    2. Select the View – Print – Share Record button
    3. Under Completion Certificate, select the View / Print button
    4. Download and save the certificate
  7. Upload your credential to IRBnet

Troubleshooting

  1. Use a Supported Browser
    IRBNet works best with updated versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. Avoid using Internet Explorer or mobile browsers.

  2. Check for Pop-Up Blockers
    Some registration steps may involve pop-ups. Disable pop-up blockers temporarily or allow IRBNet in your browser settings.

  3. Module Confusion
    If you followed the steps above, but are still confused which modules you should be completing:
    - For Human Subjects take Social & Behavioral Research
    - For Clinical Trials and/or Biomedical take Biomedical, Clinical Science
    - For Animals take modules related to specific animal(s)
