Summary
The Minnesota State system provides employee and students with access to an institutionally approved and licensed version of Microsoft Copilot. Microsoft Copilot supports productivity tasks such as drafting, summarizing, brainstorming, and general information synthesis within supported Microsoft environments.

Microsoft Copilot at WSU
Microsoft Copilot must be accessed using a Minnesota State Microsoft 365 account:
- Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu
- Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
When accessed in this manner, Copilot operates within the secure Minnesota State Microsoft 365 tenant.
Institutional Safeguards
- Approved AI vendor for Minnesota State
- Enterprise data protection (prompts and responses are not retained or used to train models)
- Designed to support appropriate use under FERPA and MGDPA
Microsoft 365 Copilot (Licensed Add-on)
Microsoft 365 Copilot is a separately licensed enhancement integrated into Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
Cost: $30 per month
Additional capabilities include:
- Enhanced AI functionality within Microsoft apps
- Ability to create custom agents or “bots”
- Access to advanced Microsoft AI tools, including Copilot Studio, as needed
