Introduction
The overall template design is bright, vibrant, visual, and clean to create a modern aesthetic that will appeal to WSU’s primary prospective audience of first-year undergraduate students. It features succinct copy that is typically paired with a visual element to “show, don’t tell.”
The design intentionally uses a lot of white space and large font sizes for easy scanning while scrolling. Scrolling is the predominant user behavior pattern for engaging with digital content, as it is easier to use on mobile devices. The public website was designed mobile-first, which is an industry best practice. The public website was also designed and built to comply with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
Webpages are built using custom blocks that are selected based on the page template, key messages and audience needs, available text and/or multimedia, and overall visual flow. These custom blocks have been designed with elements to provide visual impact, content organization, or a combination of both.
